Rekordbox Cloud Library Sync vs. Rimeo: What's the Difference?

If you've looked into keeping your DJ library in sync across computers, you've probably run into rekordbox's own Cloud Library Sync. It's easy to mix it up with other things rekordbox and Rimeo do, so here's what it actually covers, what it costs, and where a tool like Rimeo fits in instead.

What rekordbox Cloud Library Sync does

Cloud Library Sync is AlphaTheta's own feature for keeping one rekordbox library current across several machines. According to rekordbox's own FAQ, it lets you "sync your library on the cloud with the libraries on your computers and mobile devices," so the same tracks and playlists show up whether you're on your studio computer or your DJ laptop.

To make that work, your tracks get uploaded to cloud storage. Rekordbox supports Dropbox and Google Drive for this. That's the trade-off: convenient multi-device access, in exchange for your files leaving your machine and sitting on someone else's servers.

What it costs and who can use it

Cloud Library Sync isn't part of the free tier. Per the official FAQ, you need a Creative plan, a Professional plan, or a lower plan with the Cloud Option add-on. Without one of those, you get a trial capped at 10 tracks, which is enough to test the feature but not to actually run your library on it. Exact pricing for each plan changes from time to time, so check the current numbers on rekordbox's plans page before deciding.

Where Rimeo fits in

Rimeo isn't trying to do the same job. It's not for running one production library across two studio computers. It's for the much more common situation: your DJ library lives on one computer at home, and you just want to browse it, hear it, or queue it up from your phone or any browser — without uploading anything to the cloud first.

Rimeo streams straight from that computer. Nothing about your DJ library gets copied to cloud storage to make this work. If you want tracks available with the computer off or the Wi-Fi down, you download the ones you'll need ahead of time, and those play back from your iPhone's own storage afterward.

There's one place the two ideas get closer: Rimeo Pro's Sync to Rekordbox feature. Build a playlist on your phone, and it lands as a real playlist in your actual Rekordbox library — same name, right folder, same track order. But it's a one-way trip, straight from your own computer, with no cloud storage step in between. It won't give you a second full rekordbox install on another machine the way Cloud Library Sync will; it just gets what you built on your phone into the library you already have.

So the choice comes down to what you're actually trying to do. If you genuinely need the same production library open on two computers, Cloud Library Sync is built for exactly that, and the subscription is the price of that convenience. If what you want is to listen to and manage the DJ library you already have from your phone or a browser, Rimeo does that without asking you to upload it anywhere first.

Prep on your phone, find it in Rekordbox.

Similar Tracks fills your next playlist from your own DJ library, and Pulse shows the tracks you haven't played in months. Download the finished playlist to your iPhone and it plays with no signal.
