XDJ-AZ and OMNIS-DUO Firmware 2.00 Adds Spotify, Sets Apple Music Deadline

AlphaTheta released firmware version 2.00 for the XDJ-AZ and OMNIS-DUO all-in-one DJ systems on October 6, 2026. The update adds Spotify to Streaming Direct Play, the feature that lets these units load tracks and playlists straight from a streaming service, with automatic BPM and beatgrid analysis, without needing a rekordbox subscription.

Before this update, Streaming Direct Play on the XDJ-AZ and OMNIS-DUO covered Apple Music, Beatport Streaming and Tidal. Spotify is now in that list too, as long as you have a Spotify Premium account. Each service still needs its own subscription: Apple Music, Beatport Professional or Advanced for Beatport Streaming, or an Individual or Student Tidal plan with the Tidal DJ Extension added.

A separate deadline for Apple Music

rekordbox.com posted a notice alongside the firmware release saying AlphaTheta has changed how Apple Music tracks are played back on rekordbox, the XDJ-AZ and the OMNIS-DUO. From April 1, 2027, Apple Music tracks will stop loading on these products unless the update is installed. The required versions are rekordbox for Mac/Windows 7.2.0 or later, rekordbox for iOS/Android 4.5.4 or later, and firmware 2.00 or later on the XDJ-AZ and OMNIS-DUO. AlphaTheta says the change is needed "to ensure a secure and reliable Apple Music service."

What this means for your DJ library

If you own an XDJ-AZ or OMNIS-DUO and lean on Apple Music at gigs, install the update now rather than close to the deadline. Firmware updates on all-in-one units take time, and you don't want to find out your Apple Music catalog stopped loading right before a booking.

Spotify in Streaming Direct Play is a real convenience if you already pay for Premium and want to pull up a track mid-set without a laptop. Every track you play this way comes from someone else's catalog. It stays in your set while your subscription is active and the service still carries it. The Apple Music notice shows how a single update can change the rules for streamed tracks.

The tracks you bought, tagged and sorted over the years sit in your own DJ library, on your own computer. A streaming deadline doesn't touch them.

Before your next gig

  • Check your XDJ-AZ or OMNIS-DUO firmware version and update to 2.00 or later if you use Apple Music or want Spotify Direct Play.
  • Update rekordbox itself: 7.2.0 or later on desktop, 4.5.4 or later on iOS and Android.
  • Confirm you have the right streaming subscription tier for whichever service you plan to use on the hardware.
  • Build the core of your gig playlists from tracks you own, so a lapsed subscription can't empty them.

Your own tracks still live on one computer

Streaming Direct Play is good for finding a track you don't own in the middle of a set. The music you do own is harder to reach. It stays on the computer at home, so you can only prepare with it when you're sitting in front of that machine.

Rimeo streams your Rekordbox DJ library from your own computer to your iPhone or any browser, with your playlists, BPM and key. You can put together the playlist for your next XDJ-AZ gig on your phone, and Sync writes it into Rekordbox with the same name and order, ready to export to USB. Nothing gets uploaded to a cloud.

Your own tracks on your phone, before the next gig.

Download the gig playlist to your iPhone and it plays with no signal. Similar Tracks finds what is missing from it in your own DJ library, and Pulse shows the tracks that never made a set.
